On hiatus for more than a month, missed blogging so much. Healthy sandwich is something that I will featured now (this post).
O'Briens Irish Sandwich Cafe obviously is the best place to have a healthy and tasty sandwich with freshest ingredients and customization. Their menu spread from Hot Toastie to Cold Sandwich, salad and also coffee. Currently they have 11 outlets in the Klang Valley.
Fret, not. Salmon on sandwich. Fresh salmon slices is loaded on wholemeal bread with mixed leaves, red onion and squeeze of lemon.
Thin slices of salmon paired with smooth cream cheese. Lemon taste liven up out the whole flavour and it's appetising as well. Can be found in Cold Sandwich menu.
The second sandwich is from Hot Toastie menu, the Chicken Slice and Cheddar Cheese on Shambo. Main attraction of this sandwich is the shamrock shape of bread used. It is known as a symbol of Ireland, with St. Patrick celebration.
It is filled with fresh tomato, red onion, lettuce, and honey mustard mayonnaise and also chicken slice. Served with potato chips that is not overly salted.
There are still plenty other sandwiches in their menu, so take your time to discover it.
The portion of food is good enough for an average person with affordable price.
Food: 7/10
Price: 6/10
Ambience: 7/10
Verdict: Good sandwiches, balanced diet.

Just in past week, Starbucks launched new products which includes Red Velvet cake, Whoopie pies and Almond Ladies Fingers.
And I decided to have a try of Almond Ladies Fingers (ALF).
What caught my attention first? The name!!
It is said to be crunchy at outside and soft inside with cheese mocha filling.
On the top layer, there is dash of granulated sugar that give extra crunch to the top. The texture is soft, which makes no effort to bite. wtf
Deep inside between two layers of sponge is cheese mocha filling. It is not too sweet but the flavour is lacking and not really up to my expectation.
It is not too soggy nor too dry, which I like. Balance is the word.
Overall it is still worth to have a try. One piece/slice will never be enough!
Price: RM6
Rating: 8 out 10 (good)

For Christmas eve, I and my family decided to celebrate at Resorts World Genting (formely known as Genting Highlands).
We booked the Genting Golden Package which costs RM47 for Return Express Bus Transfer, Skyway and choice of Outdoor Theme Park or Buffet Lunch at Coffee Terrace.
Coffee Terrace offers buffet dining from breakfast to dinner and ala-carte menu. It has six major cuisine/kitchens to choose from; Local Favorites, Nyonya, Chinese, Western, Japanese, and Western Asian.
The price of buffet lunch before tax is RM55.00 (Adult); RM27.50 (Child).
We were seated at Lanai Bar where most diners were seated. Coffee Terrace can accommodate up to 600 diners at any one time. Other sections are Private Room, Nyonya Baba Corner and Alfresco Terrace.
Start of with Local Favourites, it offers Chicken Rice, Char Koay Teow and many more. For the Assam Laksa, the gravy is not flavorful enough; lack of spiciness and sourness. The taste of Satay is just average.
Next section, Chinese cuisine. They serve 'La Mian', Dim Sum and other dishes where can be found in China and locally. The highlight is Stir Fried Vegetables which is freshly cooked by chef and the Prawn Soup that gives Chinese wine flavor and I guess it is boiled using prawns as the soup is sweet.
In Western section, you can enjoy Pastas, beef sirloin, Salads, buns and etc. The beef sirloin is tender enough and juicy. Olio Spaghetti is a letdown as my fellow blogger, Kelly says NO for it.
My priority is definitely on this section. It serves Sushi but no Sashimi for that day, thus I was *cursing. Most of the Sushi are average, while the soy sauce; tastes not 'saucy' enough. I never try tried Japanese pickles before, so I just 'stuffed' in.
I tasted Beef Teppanyaki, only cow can chew it, lol. It's overcooked and elastic like rubber.
As you can see, the various type of cakes; Cheese cake, Blueberry, Almond and pastry.
This Tiramisu is heavenly good where I have to get few rounds of it.
Seriously, it looks very nice and appetizing but the taste is another story. Mainly they use cream and syrup to make those beautiful dessert. The Strawberry with Crumbs (top right) is worth to try, it tastes sour and the crumb texture is good.
You can get ice-cream at Western food section. Surprisingly good taste.
The service of waitress is considered good, where they will clean up those plates and refill glass of water as you eat. But I am dissatisfied with food restock/replenish, especially those Sushi and cakes. They only make effort to restock when the bar is almost empty.
WiFi service is available. Overall the setting of the buffet cafe is neat and comfortable. The choices of food, I will not say wide variety, it's just average.
I did not overeat as it will affect my digestion tract *fml. Food wastage, I can only minimise, not fully eliminate.
Food: 6.5/10
Price: 6/10
Ambience: 7/10
Verdict: A good buffet spread, worth to try.

My family decided to dine at Restoran E Soo Yong Tau Foo instead of Chan Chan, where both located at Bandar Manjalara.
So the flow of dishes for that dinner:
Well, this dish is said to be 'tasty' if the marmite is thick enough, not 'watery'. But sad case, it is a failure as I found that the sauce is slightly too sweet and diluted.
The next dish is Braised Pork in Cider Vinegar Sauce/Braised Pork Trotter. We go for a small size as some of us are not keen in this dish. I didn't taste it so I reserved from making any comments.
To balanced out of dinner, we have Stir Fried Lettuce The size of this is medium as the boss recommended. Overall this vegetable is just average.
For Yong Tau Foo, the soup is more to MSG flavouring rather than rich anchovies stock soup. I need to highlight the 'awful' Fish Ball, when it served the fish ball looks to disintegrate and looks not appealing. The fish paste is overcooked and too soft. Highly not recommended this fish ball.
Before we settle the bill, I am quite okay with the dishes. But the decent dining experience ended with nightmare. The bill stated (Braised Pork Trotter) is medium size and not small as we ordered. After few rounds of dispute, the boss came out and told us "If more that 3 persons, we will give you medium although you order small".
This is profiteering tactics as he never asked permission to change to medium. And he further said that you can't order small portion if you have 10 persons. Doesn't this mean, he forced and masterminded our orders without our knowledge? The difference of small and medium is only RM5, but you obliged to speak forward your recommendation and not change the order as the restaurant wishes.
With the poor service and cheating tactic, this E Soo Yong Tau Foo is in blacklist.
Food: 6/10
Price: 5/10

Ambience: 6/10
Verdict: Other than the unpleasant service, taste wise still good.

After day out at Jonker Walk, we filled up our tummy by dining @Bistro Year 1673.
This bistro serves American (New), Asian Fusion, Chinese, Diners, Seafood, and is also a steakhouse.
This oldest unique 338 years old heritage building is located in Jonker Street (populary known as Jonker Walk) and probably the oldest brick building in Malacca was built in the year 1673 during the era of Dutch colonialisation.
Currently the grand old building is transformed into a Bistro, where deserving diners are able to have a memorable meal with a different dining experience.
Let us visit the surrounding of this bistro and part of interior look.
During night time, live band performance is available.
This soup is clear and comes with strong flavorful taste. Duck meat is used to cook the soup instead of chicken or pork bones. Sour vegetables (ham choi) is used as main ingredient and it comes with prawns, tofu, mushroom and spring onions.
For this udang masak lemak nenas dish, was one of my favourite. The prawns used were succulent and fresh. On top of XL sized prawns, the prawn head was fill with roe. Since it was masak lemak, it has the 'lemak' taste where santan is used. And the pineapple gives combination sweet and sour taste.
Next dish is ayam pongteh, one of must have in Nyonya cuisine. The meat was cooked until tender but still in intact piece. The gravy is a bit oily with thick aromatic tauchu bean sauce and of course the gula Melaka that form the gravy.
I personally would not recommend the Cendol here. As you can see from above, the shave ice is too hard where you have to forcefully crack the topping. The gula Melaka syrup used is not thick enough and not fragrant.
The two other dishes are Mixed Vegetables and Telur Cencaluk.
For overall, this bistro should get 4 out 5 rating from me. The total bill for 5 dishes for 5 person come at around RM68.
So the next you head down to Malacca, pay a visit to this bistro!

Popiah stall still draws the crowd despite new location (The Star)
Friday August 5, 2011

EVEN THOUGH the popular popiah basah (wet popiah) stall at the Ramadan Bazaar in Section 14, Petaling Jaya has moved place, it still packs in the crowd.
The stall that used to be at the entrance of the bazaar is in the middle of the bazaar this year.
This was due to complaints of the stall being responsible for the traffic jam in the area.
However, stall owner Mohd Kassim M. Ismail, 53, has no issue with his stall’s location because people could still be seen lining up as early as 3pm just to get their hands on the popular popiah.
Rain or shine, nothing can stop Kassim’s loyal customers from queuing up for his popiah.
A visit to the stall on Monday revealed a staggering line stretching about 20 metres and Kassim’s was the only stall in the bazaar to have such a long queue.
Also generating a lot of interest were stalls selling traditional kuih, satay, murtabak, burger, nasi kerabu, nasi lemak, laksa, meehoon sup and nasi campur.
Kassim said the popiah was still sold at RM1 each
“I have been trading here for the past 20 years and I have never increased the price once.
“This is how I show my appreciation to my loyal customers,’’ he said.
According to Kassim, he learnt to make the popiah from his late grandfather, the first to start selling it in the family.
Even though Kassim was equally baffled by his popiah’s popularity, he conceded that he was grateful to still be in business after all these years.
“I am proud to continue my family’s legacy and hopefully it will always be popular, especially during Ramadan,” he said.
