This film is inspired by its director and star, Aniu his directorial debut. After all, it has some of the most famous current overseas-based Malaysian superstars in it – Angelica Lee Sinje, Victor Wong Ping Guan, Gary Chaw Ge, Fish Leong, Penny Tai, Nicholas Teo, Yi Jet Qi, as well as veterans Eric Moo and Angela Chan Mei Ngor.

The film is based on his own childhood experiences while growing up in Penang, and he plays a secondary schoolboy who is secretly in love with his school mate Fighting Fish (Sinje). Set in Malaysia in the 1980s, this film tells the story of how a shy teenage boy overcomes the challenges in his life.

Tan Kheng Seong premiere

The movie was filmed primarily in the small town of Tronoh, near Ipoh, which was chosen because it resembles the small towns that Aniu grew up in.

In fact, that’s not the only thing Malaysian about it – the filmmakers are also very proud of the fact that the movie is “100% Malaysian-made”, from the cast down to the locations and sets.

During premiere, hundreds of fans turned up to watch the parade of local celebrities walking the red carpet at the gala premiere of Ice Kacang Puppy Love at the Pavilion KL.

Other cast members who made an appearance included Gary Chaw, Fish Leong, Victor Wong, Nicholas Teo, Penny Tai, Yi Jetqi, Eric Moo and Angela Chan. Local Chinese entertainment personalities who came included Wincci Soo, Chris Tong, Yise Loo, Andrew Tan, Suki Low, Daneil Lee and Angie Seow.
